Some highlights of our short vacation to yellow stone.
Day 1 – Maria asked me what we are going to do while she was here. So I said lets pack all of the blankets I have into the van and drive west. I still had not decided where to take her. I just knew that I wanted her to see some of our national parks. So at about 9 pm. I started driving. About 3 am I pulled into a rest area and slept in the van until 7 am.
Day 2 : 8 am We are heading through south Dakato and we pull into Mitchell South Dakota. So she can see the corn palace. I have to admit it was not a complete waste of time. I would say it is worth stopping at for an hour or two max!
This is all made of corn grown to be different colors.

2nd stop was 1880 town for gasoline I thought…. The decision was made that I would be going to look through a bunch of old buildings. I spent most of my time with the Camel.

Some old Grave Stones. My personal favorite was “HERE LIES DIRTY NELLY SHE STOPPED A 45 WITH HER BELLY”

Quickly stopped in badlands

4th stop MT rushmore. – Pretty cool … We got there late so I did not get to learn much about the man who did this thing. I was a little upset we did not make it to see crazy horse before nightfall.
Angelic Goats that hang around in South Dakota.

Drove until I got to Wyoming.
Day 2
Driving to yellow stone. Stopped at a few canyons along the way.
Stopped in Grey bull for a bite to eat and to charge the phone. Arrived in Yellowstone about 7 pm.
I drove past that house that batman trained in ?

We had just enough time to stop at a few places along side yellow stone lake.

Got to the camp ground and slept in the van.
Day 3
About 630 am Maria woke me up to say she had to go to the bathroom, but was not going to walk to bathroom out of fear that a bear was waiting for her. I drove her to the rest room at the camp ground.
730 am nice and cool.
I had been driving a lot and was eager to exercise so that I did not feel like a complete fat kid. So I dragged Maria down a few trails. It was very cold for her ears.

Next stop the geysers.

I was slightly embarrassed to watch all of the people surrounding the bison like it was a sacred cow. Especially since it is an animal that will charge you. It kind of reminds me of people filming tornado’s. They just keep on filming as everything and everyone is blowing away from them.

After this we went hiking on some really pretty trails.

That night we went to a nice campground and got to listen to a rangers presentation on all the things they did wrong at Yellowstone.
At the last minute we decided this was the night to make a camp fire and cook food. I had not lit a fire in about 12 years but we figured it out and then cooked what food we had.
We had grilled hotdogs, grilled baby carrots, and some left over artisan bread.
Hotdogs from Walmart in Cody Wyoming $1.00
Grilled Baby Carrots $1.00
Artisan Bread – $5.00
Firewood and Kindle $12.00

Day 4
I lost my sunglasses and 5 minutes after I found some which I borrowed to Maria.

We went to Yellow stone canyon which is really cool – nice water fall!

Then we left and drove the bear tooth highway to visit a friend who has a ranch in Red Lodge Montana. Driving through the mountains I started to slowly realize that in the past nature was the enemy. My generation certainly has a different view
This is what I love about Montana – the speed limit is 70 on the bear tooth but suggested speed is 45. – Even I went 45 or slower.
It was pretty cool to see some lakes up at the top of the mountains.

Day 5
Red lodge Montana
Big sky country is just perfect to me.
We left about noon and started the 14 hour drive home.
